A Free Quiplash Alternative You Play in a Browser

Quiplash is a great game with two costs that send groups looking for alternatives: somebody has to buy it, and that somebody has to run it and share their screen for everyone else to see the prompts. Fake It is the same shape of joke — write something convincing, watch people fall for it — with nothing to buy and nobody stuck hosting a screen share.

What Fake It does differently

The loop will feel immediately familiar: everyone sees the same prompt, everyone writes an answer meant to pass as the real one, and then everyone votes. What changes is the plumbing. There is no host screen to share, because every player sees the prompt on their own device — which is the same device they answer on, so nobody is juggling a phone and a television. And because video chat is part of the room, you watch somebody realise they voted for a lie in real time, which is most of the fun and normally happens on a separate call.

If your group liked the other Jackbox games

Fake It is the closest match to the bluffing games, but the rest of the pack has near-equivalents here too. Most Likely To covers the voting-on-each-other territory, Silent Charades is the acting game, Trivia Royale is the quiz, and Telephone Drawing is the drawing chain that falls apart. All thirteen are free and sit behind the same link.

What Quiplash still does better

Worth saying plainly: Quiplash has professional writing, years of prompt-tuning and a polished presentation layer built for a television. If your group plays on one screen in one room and does not mind paying, it is an excellent product. Poparty is aimed at the case where people are in different places, nobody wants to buy anything, and getting everyone in should take one link.
