Privacy Policy

Poparty requires no account and asks for no personal information. This page explains exactly what is collected, why, and what your options are.

Who we are

Poparty ("we", "us") is an independent project operated by Amit And Yash. For any privacy question or request, contact poparty.app@gmail.com.

What we collect

Information you give us

  • A display name. Whatever you type when you join a room. It is stored in your own browser's local storage so you do not have to retype it, and it is shown to other people in your room. It is not required to be your real name.
  • Chat messages and game answers. These are relayed to the other players in your room while the game is running. They are held in the server's memory for the life of the room and are not written to a database.
  • An email address, but only if you offer one. The waitlist form asks for an email address, and afterwards for a first name you are free to skip, so we can write to you when a new game or feature ships. It is never required: every game works exactly the same whether you give it or not, and you are never asked twice once you have. Signups are delivered straight to our own inbox by Web3Forms — there is no mailing-list provider, no advertising profile built from it, and it is never sold or shared. Email us and we will delete yours.

Information collected automatically

  • An anonymous player ID. A random identifier the server issues so your score survives a page refresh. It is not linked to your name, email, or any other identity.
  • Basic gameplay analytics. Aggregate counts such as how many rooms were created or how many invite links were opened. These are counts, not profiles.
  • Standard technical data. Your IP address and browser user agent are visible to our servers as part of any normal web request, and are used for rate limiting and abuse prevention.

What we never collect

  • We never require an email address, and we do not collect passwords, phone numbers or payment details. There is no account to create. The only email address we ever hold is one you typed into the waitlist form yourself, and only for the purpose described above.
  • We do not record, store or transcribe your video, audio, screen share or karaoke performance. Video and audio travel directly between participants' browsers using WebRTC and do not pass through our servers where a direct connection is possible.
  • We do not sell personal data to anyone.

How long we keep things

Room state — players, scores, chat, game progress — lives in server memory and is destroyed when the room ends. It is not persisted to disk. Your display name lives in your browser and you can clear it at any time by clearing site data for this domain.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use browser local storage to remember your display name and anonymous player ID. That is strictly necessary for the site to work — a room needs to know who you are — and it is never used to track you across other websites.

Your choice

Everything else — analytics and advertising cookies — is optional and is governed by the banner shown on your first visit. Until you accept, Google's tags run in a restricted mode that sets no cookies and uses no advertising identifiers. Ads still appear on content pages, but they are not personalised.

You can change your mind at any time: choose Cookie settings in the footer of any page. Rejecting costs you nothing — every game works identically either way, and there is no account, no profile and no paywall behind the choice.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, nothing optional is stored until you have actively accepted it.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage — how many people visit, which pages, which games get played. Google Analytics sets its own cookies. You can read Google's privacy policy, and you can opt out entirely using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

This site displays advertising on its content pages to cover hosting costs. There is no advertising inside game rooms.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or the NAI opt-out page.

Third-party services

  • YouTube. Watch Party and Karaoke Party embed the YouTube player. When you use them, YouTube may set cookies and collect data under Google's privacy policy.
  • Google Fonts. Fonts are served from Google's CDN, which receives your IP address as part of the request.
  • Web3Forms. Delivers the feedback form and the waitlist signup to our inbox as email. It processes what you typed into that form in order to send it, and nothing else. Read their privacy policy.
  • Hosting. The site is hosted on Vercel and the game server on Render. Both process request data as part of delivering the service.
  • STUN servers. Establishing a peer-to-peer video connection uses public STUN servers to discover your network address. No media flows through them.

Children

Poparty is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, or to object to it. Because Poparty stores no account and no persistent personal profile, in most cases there is nothing held to retrieve or delete. The one exception is a waitlist signup, which sits in our inbox until you ask us to remove it — email poparty.app@gmail.com and we will delete it and confirm.

You can remove everything Poparty has stored in your own browser at any time by clearing site data for this domain.

Security

Traffic is served over HTTPS. Player identity tokens are cryptographically signed so they cannot be forged. Game secrets — the drawing word, the imposter's identity — are held server-side and never broadcast to players who should not see them. No system is perfectly secure, and we make no guarantee of absolute security.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Poparty after a change means you accept the updated policy.
