About Poparty

Poparty is a free collection of 13 party games you play in a browser with your friends, with video and voice chat built into the same room.

What it is

Poparty started from a simple frustration: playing games with a group online almost always meant running two things at once — the game in one window and a video call in another. That works, but it is clumsy, it does not work at all on a phone, and it means the moment someone reacts to what just happened in the game, half the group misses it.

So Poparty puts them together. You create a room, share the link, and everyone who joins is in the same video call and the same game. The host picks a game from the lobby, and when the group is done with it they pick another one without anybody leaving or rejoining.

What's in it

Thirteen games as of today, covering drawing (Scribble, Telephone Drawing), social deduction and bluffing (Guess the Imposter, Fake It), quizzing (Trivia Royale), word play (Word Match), group-mind games (Herd Mind, Wavelength, Most Likely To), webcam charades (Silent Charades), motion tennis using your phone as a racket, and two hang-out modes — a synced YouTube Watch Party and a live Karaoke Party with real vocal effects.

How it's built

The games run on a Node and Socket.IO backend that holds the authoritative game state, so nothing important is decided in the browser. Video and audio are WebRTC and travel directly between browsers wherever the network allows. The site you are reading is static HTML; the game itself is a React application. It is all one small independent project rather than a company.

What it costs

Nothing. There is no account, no trial, no purchase and no premium tier. The site carries advertising on pages like this one to cover hosting costs — there are no ads inside the game rooms themselves.

Who makes it

Poparty is built and run by Amit Kumar Khandekar as an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to skribbl.io, Gartic Phone, Jackbox Games, Kahoot, or any other product mentioned on this site.
